Don’t miss this important learning opportunity on Sunday, November 17, at the Sheraton Greensboro/Koury Convention Center. This pre-conference event will precede the 2019 NCSBA Annual Conference. Note: Core Training is not included as part of your NCSBA Annual Conference registration. Participants must register for both events separately.

This training will focus on the legal roles of the board, hitting the critical topics of decision making, judicial issues, policy making and governance, and oversight. Click here to see the agenda.

Registration starts at 12 p.m., and the event will be from 12:30 to 4:45 p.m.

2020 Spring Law Conference @ NCSBA Assembly Hall

NCSBA’s 2020 Spring Law Conference will put the focus on student services. This year’s conference will spotlight board members’ and school administrators’ legal obligations to provide a sound basic education for all students and to address barriers to student success.

The NCSBA registration is temporarily down as we transition to a new system. Service is expected to resume on March 3.

This conference will provide 11 hours of continuing education credit for board members and administrators and 11 hours of CLE credit for attorneys.

Policy Update #2: Communicable Diseases and Health- Related Concerns to Consider When Reopening Schools for the 2020-2021 School Year

The session will include a discussion of NCSBA’s March 31, 2020, revision of Policy 4230, Communicable Diseases – Students, which includes provisions addressing the school system’s duty to report communicable disease, to maintain the confidentiality of health information, and to provide notice of exposure to infectious agents under certain circumstances.

The session will also include a general discussion of some of the health-related legal and policy issues that your board will need to consider while planning for the reopening of school in the fall, such as compliance with federal, state, and local health protocols, addressing increased absenteeism among staff and students, and preventing stigma, harassment, and/or bullying due to perceived race, national origin, or recent travel.

Fall Law Conference @ Virtual Event

Our 2020 Fall Law Conference is going virtual!

Plan to join us October 7-9 via Zoom for this year’s conference. During a school year unlike any other, this is the perfect time to learn about the many legal issues currently affecting public schools. Take a look at our agenda. After the Department of Education issued new regulations on Title IX sexual harassment in May 2020, school systems across the country were left scrambling to put policies and procedures in place to implement the new requirements. Most importantly, the webinar will give you a working knowledge of the two new Title IX sexual harassment policies and what happens next after your school system receives a report or complaint of sexual harassment.
